"I Can't Listen, Translate, and Take Notes at the Same Time"

StudentsLecturesTranslation

Students attending lectures in a second language face a triple challenge: understanding the content, mentally translating unfamiliar terms, and capturing notes — all at the same time. When the professor moves on, you're still processing the last sentence. By the end of the lecture, your notes have gaps, and your understanding is fragmented.

The Problem

1Can't write fast enough while translating mentally
2Key terminology is unfamiliar in the lecture language
3Recordings help but take hours to re-listen
4Study notes are incomplete and hard to review
How Meeting Bable Helps

Meeting Bable handles transcription and translation so you can focus on understanding. Real-time transcription captures every word the professor says, and live translation puts it in your language instantly. After class, review the full bilingual transcript and AI-generated summary.

Audio to Text, So You Can Actually Learn

For most international students, the hardest part of studying abroad shows up on Wednesday at 9 a.m. — a seminar in a language you know but don't live in. The professor says something about "sunk cost" and you lose the next thirty seconds of the lecture trying to remember the term in your native tongue. By the time you catch up, two more concepts have gone by. Your notes end up a jumble of half-sentences and question marks. Come exam week, you're re-learning the lecture from scratch.

The usual student tools don't really fit this problem. Voice Memos captures the audio but leaves you listening through the entire lecture again to find anything. Most transcription apps convert audio to text but only in English, which misses most of the case where the lecture itself is in Japanese, Mandarin, or German. Free browser captions work in theory but cut out unpredictably and don't save in a searchable form.

Meeting Bable was originally built because one of our team was a Mandarin-speaking graduate student sitting in English lectures on machine learning, trying to translate and take notes at the same time. Start a session at the beginning of class, pick the lecture language and your native language, and the transcript appears in real time with the translation side by side. You stop trying to listen-translate-and-type. You just listen. After the lecture, you get a searchable bilingual transcript, an AI summary of the key concepts, and the freedom to review at your own pace. A year of class sessions becomes a searchable personal knowledge base — the thing textbooks never were.
